The Goldsmiths’ Company decided in 1926 to begin a collection of modern silver, to improve the design and craftsmanship in the silver industry.
Britannia silver. Hand-raised, hammered and chased. Body decorated with furrows spiralling from base to neck, trough between ridges are softly textured and matt white finished. Tops of ridges are bright finished to contrast with matt areas. Maker’s mark: Hiroshi Suzuki. Measurements: 30.6 cm. Diameter 18 cm.
Part of a series of vases exploring the subtleties of fluidity within a form and on a surface to create a work that belongs to a conceptual realm of appreciation, a poetry of water. Purchased after being exhibited at the ‘Creation’ exhibition held at Goldsmiths’ Hall, 2004. Purchased by the Company.
