1999 Casket by Malcolm Appleby

18 carat white and yellow gold casket designed and engraved by Malcolm Appleby. Seamed and raised, base of Turkish burr walnut with large Indian moonstone set in lid, made by Hector Miller, silversmith. Maker’s mark: Malcolm Appleby, Edinburgh. Measurements: Height 11cm. Length 17 cm.

Engraved with a rising and setting sun above the ocean, which symbolise the passage of time throughout the seasons. The moonstone is evocative of the moon’s influence on the tides and enhances the imagery of the fundamental elements required to support life of fire, water, air and light. The casket is for wild flower seeds which were sown in the millennium year as a symbol of regeneration of the precious planet earth in the 21^st century. Commissioned for the Millennium by the Company.
