The Goldsmiths’ Company decided in 1926 to begin a collection of modern silver, to improve the design and craftsmanship in the silver industry.

The myth of Persephone’s abduction by Hades represents her function as the personification of vegetation which shoots forth in spring and withdraws into the earth after harvest.
This vase represents the irrepressible growth of spring; inspired by the Snowdonian landscape where plants strive against the hard mountain elements, emerging from cracks and fissures with immense energy. Commissioned as the centrepiece of her showcase silver exhibits at Erddig Hall, when she was artist in residence for the Goldsmiths’ Company’s ‘Studio Silver Today’ exhibition, in liaison with the National Trust, 2013.
