The Goldsmiths’ Company decided in 1926 to begin a collection of modern silver, to improve the design and craftsmanship in the silver industry.

1933 Rosewater Dish by Harold Stabler
Silver-gilt spun and hammered dish, rim with applied die-stamped motifs. The central boss with chased Company coat of arms. Engraved and designed by Harold Stabler, and made by him and W.E. King of Wakely & Wheeler and B.J. Colson. Maker’s mark: Harold Stabler. Measurements: Height 5.8 cm. Diameter 50 cm.
The approach to the manufacture of this dish of associating craftsmen and machinery, together with the angular stamped ornament in the ‘Chinese Manner’ (which Stabler made his own) show his ability to combine modernity with tradition in keeping with the demand of new industrial art. Commissioned by the Company.
