About the Library
Housed on the first floor of Goldsmiths’ Hall, the Library was established in the 1950s as part of the Company’s mission to promote jewellery and silversmithing. Contact us or arrange a visit.
Picture Library
The Library holds over 15,000 images on subjects relating to precious metalwork, jewellery, hallmarking and the Goldsmiths’ Company.
The most significant part of the image collection illustrates the work of 20th and 21st century British jewellers and silversmiths, but topics such as the Company’s fine art collection, antique silver, techniques and workshops are also covered.
The images come in a wide variety of media, including glass negatives, photographs, slides and digital files, all of which can be viewed in the Library. Please contact us for information on a particular subject, to obtain an image for research, or to licence an image for publication.

The Company’s archives date back to the 14th century, and the Library's collections include over 8,000 books and over 15,000 images, magazines, journals, films and special research collections.
History of the Company
The Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths, more commonly known as the Goldsmiths' Company, is one of the Twelve Great Livery Companies of the City of London and received its first royal charter in 1327.
